Banogue Parish Musical 2009-01-16

Banogue parish present their annual musical this year ‘Grease’ at the Parish Centre opening Feb 7th and 8th and continuing 13th 14th and 15th. They have been presenting shows to expanding audiences with great success for the past 12 years. It is a wonderful achievement in a small rural parish and long may it continue. All work is voluntary and everybody is welcome.
Its back to school this year for everybody as Grease is set in Rydell High School. We are delighted to report that we have lots of new ‘students’ this year and the older ones are reliving their teenage years in the show. There are over seventy people involved on and off stage. Producer is Mike Larkin.

Grease first opened in Manhattan in Feb 1972 and after rave reviews quickly moved to Broadway, where it continued for 7 years. It has been revived many times since and is currently running in London’s West End and touring Asia.
Rehearsals in Banogue started back in October and it has been great fun watching our teenagers doing lively choreography and the older ones trying to keep up with them, whether it be, at the High School Hop or at the rock and roll picnic in the park. Overall this years show promises to touch many memories of wild youth, when girls experiment with wine, cigarettes and pierced ears, and talk about boys, while gangs of ‘ being cool’, boys, had a car. Patricia Noonan and Richie Kelly head the cast of this great rock and roll show and we have discovered excellent new talent in many of our latest recriuts. We guarantee a wonderfully entertaining night to young and old.
Grease doesn’t have a message, it gives a flavour of being a teenager in the 50’s when rock’n’roll and putting grease in you’re hair were the most important things in life. It has maintained its everlasting popularity, proving that teenage anxiety and love’s young dreams remain timeless and universal themes.
The success of our annual show would not be achieved without the support of our loyal patrons, our sponsors and our volunteers who we sincerely thank. We look forward to meeting you all again this year. Be there or be square!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
