Banogue Notes 2009-02-16

Banogue Farm Auction 1959

THANKS

Banogue Parish Centre Committee would like to thank everybody who helped to make their recent presentation of “Grease” such an outstanding success. It was a wonderful community achievement to see everyone giving their best, with a smile and all voluntarily.

We thank the huge cast, the producer, the orchestra, those who helped at costumes , props and make up, the backstage crew and prompters, the front of house team, the parking trio, the people who brought lovely food for the half time break, the shop assistants, the ticket sellers and the often forgotten people, who prepared and cleaned up the centre every night and were always there when needed. We thank the people from outside the parish, some for the first time, who continue to be a very welcome addition to our crew, and new talent is always welcome. It was brilliant to see so many new faces on stage this year, all quick to learn back stage etiquette!

A big thank you is due to the many generous sponsors for the many fine raffle prizes. A special thank you to the Vale star for their kind exposure.

Thanks to our own dependable David Lahiff who as usual took care of the posters and programmes. We thank Fr Kennedy for his continued encouragement. Thanks to the board of management for the use of the classroom. Above all, we say a sincere thanks to our loyal patrons, welcome to all who came for the first time. We believe they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and our apologies to those who couldn’t get in on the Sunday night as safety regulations wouldn’t allow. We know you were disappointed but remember the old saying “the early bird catches the worm”.

Sunday night was a benefit night for the Seamus Geehan wheelchair fund and we sincerely thank all who contributed so generously to the €3507 which was raised on the night. The fund is still open so if you want to contribute feel free to do so, to any one of the hall committee.

All this work, co-operation and support generates a great community spirit and ensures that we in Banogue hold onto our own unique identity.

Parish Mission

The preparation week for the parish mission has been going on all week with house gatherings around the different areas and we are glad to say are going very well. The Parish Council are doing a lot of work to ensure that the whole parish is actively involved in the spiritual renewal of our community and are deserve a good response. The Mission which opens officially on Sunday 22nd at 7 30 pm is being conducted by Redemptorists, Fr. Tadhg Herbert and Fr Adrian Egan. During the week there will be morning masses at 7 and 10 am to facilitate those going to work, and evening devotions at 7 30pm. There will be a special Mass with anointing of the sick and infirm on Saturday at 11 am. The theme of the mission is “Rediscovering Our Faith in Today’s World”.

Scór Sinsear

Banogue GAA will be well represented at the south final of Scór on Saturday night, to be held in Banogue at 8pm. With rehearsals going on for the past few weeks, the club is competing in seven of the eight competitions. There are over thirty very talented people, from the parish involved, some going on stage for the first time, and others returning after a long absence to celebrate 40 years of scór.
